The 3500+ residents of northwest Greenwich are like everyone else. They study, work, play, shop, and volunteer in town government and civic groups. Their homes range in size from small to mansions. Most are on acreage lots subdivided from former farms and large estates. Northwest Greenwich has schools, churches, roads, golf courses, the Audubon Center, nursing homes, and other places that other Greenwich residents use, too.
The open spaces and woodlands of northwest Greenwich protect the air, prevent flooding, and protect the water supply for all of Greenwich. But storms and falling trees cause accidents and power outages. Narrow, winding roads make emergency services more difficult.
Northwest residents pay more taxes to the Town than any other district, but do not have the same fire protection -- by a long shot. It is the largest geographic region, but the only district without a professionally staffed station.
No one should fear for the lack of fire protection when they live, work, study, or pass through this part of town. All Greenwich residents need and deserve adequate fire protection.
If one part of town is underserved, everyone loses. When one part of town is at risk, everyone loses.
